Christy Mcnamara, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been in private practice in Winter Park since 2008. In my practice, I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Before earning a Masters of Social Work, I earned a Masters in Education and worked as a teacher for both public and private schools in the Central Florida area. While teaching, I mentored and tutored children ranging in age from six to 15 years old, helping with academic, behavioral, and/or developmental concerns.

I have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. In couples work, I consider the “relationship” as my client, and we work together to discover the negative cycles where you and your partner become stuck. Then, you learn new ways of communicating to enhance your connection with each other.

My work with individuals is focused on training in PBSP (Pess Boydon System Psychomotor) where we explore how you developed thoughts and feelings from past experiences, and how they impact your life today. Training in Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) allows me to help individuals overcome the ongoing effects associated with traumatic experiences. I am also trained in play therapy, have given Stress Management Seminars in conjunction with Advent Heatlh. I am always open to new ways of learning and serving my clients, and often like to use a holistic approach in finding the best treatment for each individual person.

My hope is to provide a comfortable and nonjudgmental space for you to talk about yourself and your experiences. Through the process of therapy, you can better understand the patterns in your life, overcome barriers that keep getting in your way, and experience new ways of coping with your current life situations. The goal is to bring more meaning, joy, satisfaction and connection to your life.

When I am not working, you can usually find me at my children’s sporting events.  My work schedule has been structured around my children’s’ school and extracurricular activities. I also enjoy walking, yoga, reading, puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.
